Police have alleged drink driving was involved in a shocking crash in Gympie on Friday which left a ute hanging in trees and a man critically injured.
Emergency crews were called to the scene of the crash between Downsfield and Anderleigh, 25km north of Gympie, after a red Nissan Navara ute veered off Sandy Creek Rd near its intersection with Anderleigh Rd about 12.30pm.
The ute reportedly travelled 50m into the scrub after hitting a concrete kerb as it left the road and became airborne, colliding with a tree and coming to rest with its nose pointed at the ground and its tray suspended in the air.
A 55-year-old Nanango man suffered critical injuries in the crash and was flown to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
The 24-year-old driver, also from Nanango, was taken to Gympie Hospital by road.
Police alleged on Monday that a roadside breath test of the 24-year-old at the scene returned a result over the legal limit.
Investigations are ongoing and no charges have been laid.
