A 000 call alerted Gympie police to a car stopped in the middle of a Southside intersection with its lights on high beam and the young driver slumped over the steering wheel.
Gympie Magistrates Court heard on Thursday 22-year-old mechanic and livestock agent Patrick Roderick Daniel Sullivan had to be woken up by police after they found him in his car at the intersection of Exhibition Rd and Glastonbury Rd in the early hours of the morning on July 2, 2022.
The 000 call came from another driver about 3.17am. Police arrived to find Sullivan passed out at the wheel of his car, on the wrong side of the traffic island, the court heard.
He blew 0.113.
Duty lawyer Chris Anderson told the court his client had about eight beers in three hours at a mate’s party that night and stopped drinking at midnight.
Sullivan was fined $700 and disqualified from driving for three months. Convictions were recorded.
