A convicted drug trafficker returned to jail after police got a hold of his text messages revealing he was back dealing drugs.

Nathan Kyle Lumsden, 31, pleaded guilty in Gympie District Court on Thursday to four counts of supplying drugs.

Police investigating drug dealings in the Gympie area found text messages from Lumsden on phones seized from several people, the court heard.

The messages revealed Lumsden was a “middle man” in a transaction for 0.15 grams of meth in September, 2021.

Lumsden sold 0.1 grams for $100 twice on September 26, and 0.4 grams for $86 two days later, the court heard.

Judge Glen Cash read out Lumsden’s history to the court, including his three year jail sentence for drug trafficking in 2019 handed down in the Brisbane Supreme Court.

The trafficking occurred over a six-year period, the court heard.

He was released on parole on that occasion after spending almost a year in jail.

Lumsden was before court again in April 2021 for possessing drugs where he was sentenced to two months in jail suspended for nine months.

He has spent the past nine months in jail after being taken into pre-sentence custody earlier this year.

He had worked in farming at Nolans and had done other work in fruit stores, Judge Cash told the court.

“You can be released, go back to using drugs, commit offences, perhaps kill yourself or you can stay away from drugs, do something useful and be a father to your children,” he said.

“The choice is yours.”

Lumsden was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment but able to apply for parole immediately.
