Gympie drug trafficker back in court after serving prison sentence

The former Gympie High student has already spent a year behind bars for trafficking drugs, but faced seven fresh charges earlier this month

A convicted Gympie drug trafficker found himself back before the court this month after committing eight fresh offences.

Nathan Kyle Lumsden, 29, appeared in custody in Gympie Magistrates Court on Tuesday, April 27, wearing prison greens.

The former Gympie State High School student had previously served jail time for drug trafficking, his sentence handed down by Justice Peter Applegarth in the Brisbane Supreme Court.

Lumsden was sentenced to three years jail and was released on parole on July 12, 2019, after spending 304 days behind bars.

He was also given a 200-hour community service order and issued a serious drug offence certificate.

Appearing before Magistrate Kurt Fowler in Gympie on April 27, Lumsden pleaded guilty to committing eight offences between September 21, 2020, and January 21, 2021.

They included two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, two counts of failing to appear, shoplifting and obstructing a police officer.

Magistrate Fowler sentenced Lumsden to two months in jail, suspended for nine months for the drug charges.

For all the other offences Lumsden was fined $1000. Convictions were recorded.
