A 20-year-old former landscaper was fined $6oo for sneaking alcohol out of the window of a Gympie hotel.
Jayden Peter Wilkinson pleaded guilty to one count of stealing in Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday.
Wilkinson and a friend went “socialling” at the Phoenix Hotel on March 12, police prosecutor Melissa Campbell told the court.
Wilkinson snuck behind a closed bar counter in the hotel and opened a back window.
The pair passed multiple bottles of spirits and alcohol through the window, the court heard.
The hotel became aware of the theft after they left the premises.
In total, the Phoenix Hotel lost $600 worth of stock, the court heard.
Police attended Wilkinson’s house after viewing the hotel’s CCTV footage.
He admitted he was the person who stole the bottles and told police he was very drunk and did not remember much of the events that day.
He called it a “dumb decision,” Ms Campbell told the court.
His partner in crime has not been located or identified yet.
The court heard Wilkinson lived off Job Seeker payments and wanted to return to the landscaping industry.
“In my submission, he should only be required to pay one half,” duty lawyer Chris Anderson told the court.
Magistrate Chris Callaghan asked why.
“He was one of two offenders,” Mr Anderson said.
“Doesn’t matter,” Mr Callaghan replied.
He was fined $400 and ordered to pay restitution of $600. No convictions were recorded.
Mr Callaghan advised Wilkinson, considering he was the only one to appear before the court, to seek out his partner in crime to pay half of the compensation.
