A 24-year-old Gympie mum of two wiped away tears in the Gympie Magistrates Court dock on Tuesday, as the court heard details of a spate of offences connected to her meth addiction.
Jade Skyanna Forrester Turner pleaded guilty in Gympie Magistrates Court to 17 charges, including two charges of driving with a drug in her system, obstructing police, possessing drugs, possessing drug utensils, possessing property suspected of being used in a drug offence, possessing explosives, possessing tainted property, possessing property used in the connection of a drug offence, escaping lawful custody, evading police, failing to appear, using false plates and driving an unregistered vehicle.
She was supported by four people in the public gallery, one of which wiped away tears throughout her appearance.
The court heard Forrester Turner’s crime spree began when she was pulled over on January 13, 2022, where police found traces of meth in her saliva and that she was in possession of drugs and accompanying utensils.
She was also charged with obstructing police that day, though the details of that charge were not read in court.
Two weeks later, on January 29, she was pulled over a second time and found with traces of meth in her saliva.
Then, on March 11, she was stopped a third time.
The court heard police searched her vehicle, which had a shattered front and back windshield following an altercation from the night before.
Forrester Turner had told police a baseball bat was taken to her car, though she later claimed it was “shot at”.
But while police combed her car, Forrester Turner panicked and fled the scene.
It was not confirmed if she escaped on foot or in the vehicle.
“She was in a paranoid state, that she would be seen with police and she was essentially reporting (the shooting) incident to police,” Ms Nightingale said.
Police prosecutor Melissa Campbell said Forrester Turner was then found at her home the following day.
That same day, she was found with tainted property and an unknown sum of money, which Ms Nightingale said was a result of her client’s desperate attempts to fuel her meth addiction.
It was not confirmed if these items were found as a result of searching Forrester Turner’s car.
The court heard she failed to appear in Gympie Magistrates Court on March 21, and was then caught with drug utensils and driving an unregistered vehicle with false plates on April 3.
An evasion notice was also served in Forrester Turner’s name after her car was used in an evasion, though she claimed to be in prison at the time and could not confirm who the driver was.
However, given it was her car, she was charged as the driver.
Ms Nightingale said her client aspired to be a construction worker after her release, and that she had been clean from meth since she was taken into custody.
Magistrate Chris Callaghan described Forrester Turner’s story with drug addiction as “sad”.
She, and one supporter in the public gallery, wiped away tears as her sentence was handed down.
Forrester Turner was sentenced to 12 months behind bars, with her 44 days behind bars declared time served.
She was disqualified from driving for two years and will be released on parole on May 22, 2022.
