Gympie’s drink and drug drivers sentenced in court

Boats, weapons and crashes – Gympie traffic court deals out justice to drivers doing the wrong thing.

A third of drink and drug driving offenders come from these two professions

Forty people were listed to attend Gympie traffic court on Thursday, January 20. Of those, six were convicted and sentenced for drink or drug driving offences.

Drink and drug driving remain leading causes of car accidents and deaths on Australian roads, and with more than 200 fatalities across Queensland in 2021, bringing attention to the issue is an obligation and a necessity.

These are the people sentenced in Gympie Magistrates Court on January 20:
P-plater Bailey Scott John Bozoky was stopped by police on Watson Road at 1.38am on Boxing Day, December 26, 2021, where be blew .102.

He was fined $650 in Gympie Magistrates Court and disqualified from driving for five months.

Astrid Jean Forrest-Turner was fined $300 for returning a positive drug test after being stopped by police, and another $300 for carrying a knife in her handbag. She was also disqualified from driving for two months.

The court heard Forrest-Turner was stopped while driving her car on Rifle Range Rd at 12.50am on November 29, 2021.

No conviction was recorded.

Christian Albert Dibbets was placed on six months probation after returning a positive drug result after being stopped by police at 2.37pm on November 2, 2021.

The court heard he had four previous offences of a similar nature. Dibbets was disqualified from driving for nine months.

Gympie truck driver Sean Lewis was fined $500 and disqualified from driving for three months after he was stopped by police at 2.30am on Miller St in Gympie on December 12, 2021.

The court heard Lewis blew a BAC reading of .089. He had been at the Queenslander Hotel and had consumed two vodka cruisers and two rum and cokes before deciding to drive home, it heard.

Dane Kristofer Pinchin was fined $500 for driving a boat at Tin Can Bay on New Year’s Eve while over the limit. The court heard Pinchin was pulled over by water police on Crab Creek about 5.30pm on December 31, 2021, and blew .079 per cent.

Sarah Diana Jane Child was fined $450 and disqualified from driving for three months after pleading guilty to driving under the influence of a drug while on a suspended licence.

The court heard Child was driving on Wickham St in Gympie on September 20, when she was stopped by police and given a saliva test which returned a positive result.

On top of her three months, she was disqualified for an extra month for driving while suspended.
