A 17-year-old boy has been charged with several offences connected to a shooting on the outskirts of Gympie, but investigations into the matter remain ongoing.

Police were called to a semi-rural address on the outskirts of Gympie about 9am on Friday May 19, 2023, following reports shots had been fired into a home.

No-one was injured in the incident.

Early investigations indicated a number of bullets were fired into the front of the house, with a group of people then forcing their way into the home, police said.

A ute was then stolen from the premises and used to escape, and other vehicles and the house were damaged.

The youth has reportedly been charged with burglary, assault, property damage, and stealing as a result of police investigations.

He is scheduled to appear in Gympie Children’s Court in early June and has not been charged with any offences relating to the shooting itself.

Police are still searching for the weapon, but believe there is no ongoing risk to the community.

It is understood the two groups were known to each other, and police are appealing for any witnesses or knowledge if the events to come forward.
