Gympie Police investigate stolen car torched near James Nash high school

Police are investigating after a stolen vehicle was found on fire near a Gympie high school and cemetery.

Queensland Police and firefighters arrived at Myall St near James Nash State High School and the Gympie cemetery about 7.10pm on June 23 to reports of a vehicle fire.

The torched car was identified as stolen, and the fire crew remained at the scene for 30 minutes, with the flames reportedly extinguished by 7.25pm.

Pictures shared by Julie Johnson on Facebook shortly after 7pm show a large amount of smoke and bright flames near Gympie cemetery.

The fire service crew left the scene to QPS after 7.30pm, and police reported investigations were still ongoing.
