Police have arrested and charged a 21-year-old Gympie man over a series of driving and “high-value” property crimes across the Gympie region and Ipswich spanning more than a year.

Police said in a statement released on Saturday the man was arrested at a Brooloo property near Imbil on Friday afternoon, following an extensive investigation into a string of driving and property crimes.

They allege the man is connected to several serious incidents spanning July 2021 and June 2022, including an incident of dangerous driving in December.

Officers allegedly found methamphetamine and five stolen vehicles including a Triton 4WD, a Holden Ute, a Ford Ute, two caravans and a motorbike at the Brooloo property.

He was charged with 45 offences, including dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm and left scene without obtaining help, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, attempting to escape lawful custody, enter premises and commit indictable offence, common assault, driving an unregistered vehicle, failing to appear, possessing dangerous drugs, failing to comply with a requirement to stop, unlawful possession of weapons, 10 charges of unlicensed driving, seven charges of stealing a motor vehicle, three charges of stealing and wilful damage, two charges of receiving tainted property, evade police, trespass and contravening a domestic violence order.

Gympie Criminal Investigation Branch Officer in Charge Robert Lowry said the arrest was a reminder to rural communities about the importance of security and to always report incidents to police immediately.

“It is the vital information we receive from community members which help police track down offenders and put them before the courts,” he said.

The 21-year-old man was remanded in custody and will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on July 5.

Investigations are ongoing, and police urge anyone with information about the incidents across the Gympie and Ipswich regions to contact them.
