Two men have been sentenced in Gympie Magistrates Court over a fight which broke out with security during an Imbil event.

Glen Bailey pleaded guilty to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm.

The court heard Bailey attended the Imbil Bull Bronc Barrels event January 23 last year and intended to buy alcohol from the licensed area at showgrounds at about 6pm.

He had consumed four drinks within two hours beforehand.

Bailey was pulled out of line by the security guard who urged him to take a break and have something to eat.

An argument broke out and Bailey was escorted out by the security guard, heading towards the entrance gates where his work colleague, Maitland Patrick Collins was waiting for him.

Another security guard witness came to assist the security officer escorting Bailey.

A pack of four cans was thrown from an unknown source, which hit the witness in the head, the court heard.

Another argument ensued between Bailey and the security guard, with Bailey approaching the security guard and going “up in his face,” police prosecutor Kennedy Grills said.

The argument turned violent when Bailey threw a punch at the security guard’s face.

With the security guard on the floor, Bailey punched him several times again until they were pulled apart by other security officers.

Collins approached the pair with the intent to involve himself and pull them apart and argued with the witness during the scuffle, the court heard.

The security guard was left with a split lip and a bruise on his face.

Police were notified after the pair left the venue and were located at a nearby hotel.

Bailey, an experienced mechanic who owns Bailey’s Earthmoving in Nanango, was fined $1000 and ordered to pay $1500 compensation.

Convictions were recorded.

Collins, his 23-year-old ‘acquaintance’ pleaded guilty to public nuisance and was fined $300.

No conviction was recorded.
