An alleged drink driver has crashed into what was once a child care centre on a busy road leading into the heart of Gympie.
Police tape covered the front of the now vacant building on Horseshoe Bend on Wednesday morning after a ute allegedly crashed into it on Tuesday night.
Queensland Police said a 28-year-old Gympie man driving a Nissan Navara had crashed into the back of a car parked out front of the building about 10pm Tuesday.
The parked car was pushed out of the way and received significant damage to the rear right side, police said.
The man driving the Nissan Navara drove further into the old building, causing damage to the structural awning.
The car then came to a stop in the front yard of the attached house.
The building was an old shopfront attached to a residence and for several years was part of the Uniting Church child care centre on Horseshoe Bend, though the centre relocated many years ago.
The man allegedly returned a breath test of 0.151, more than three times the legal limit, the QPS spokesperson said.
The man is due to appear in Gympie Magistrates Court on October 18 for a charge of drink driving.
