Man caught with drugs and weapons after allegedly driving 142km/h

A 32-year-old man charged following a high-speed crash outside a Gympie primary school during school pick-up has been released on bail ahead of his next court appearance.

Daniel John Grimstone-Remy, of Gympie, is accused of causing a shocking, high speed crash outside the Jones Hill Primary School on McIntosh Creek Road just after 3pm on Tuesday, June 6.

Mr Grimstone-Remy has been charged with 16 offences, including one count each of disobeying the speed limit, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, failing to comply with duties of a driver involved in a crash, and driving a motor vehicle without a driver’s licence (disqualified by court order).

He is also facing four counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count of receiving tainted property.

Police say the car, a white Ford Focus, was observed by a motorbike patrol officer, driving about 142km/h on the Mary Valley Rd at 3.10pm.

The officer allegedly followed as the Ford turned on to McIntosh Creek Rd and into a busy school zone, at which point police switched off their lights and sirens.

It is alleged the Ford crashed into multiple cars and did not stay at the scene.

Dashcam footage released by the police on Friday morning allegedly shows the white Ford sideswiping a car and rolling up onto two wheels as it tries to pass between two vehicles.

The Ford was found on Judicial Circuit, about 200m west, but the driver had fled.

Mr Grimstone-Remy was later arrested by police, allegedly in possession of a quantity of drugs, drug utensils, a small knife and two firearms.

He will return to Gympie Magistrates Court on July 10.

Police investigations are continuing, and they have called for any witnesses or people with footage to come forward.
