Police target 'risky behaviour' on roads this holiday season

A desperate father has pleaded with the magistrate for mercy after his young daughter was caught driving with meth in her system.

Courtney Shae McEwan, 18, pleaded guilty to one count of drug driving in the Gympie Magistrate Court on Thursday morning.

The court heard about 10pm on December 20, 2021, police were conducting an RBT when they pulled over McEwan who returned a positive reading to drugs in her saliva.

McEwan’s father told Magistrate Chris Callaghan his daughter was “a victim of the plague,” had a tough upbringing and he was going to do his best to rehabilitate her.

Mr Callaghan asked if he was referring to the drug known as ice, which the father confirmed.

“Come here on a Monday and see all the ice addicts, it’s not a great life” Mr Callaghan said.

He then warned McEwan if she continued her behaviour she would end up appearing on the screen (via video link from jail).

McEwan was disqualified from driving for three months and fined $150.
