A Gympie mum issued an urgent plea for help after her car was stolen from her at knifepoint. Just hours later, that car would be involved in a horror highway crash which has claimed three lives.

A Gympie mum was the victim of a carjacking in Gympie only 12 hours before the vehicle was involved in an horrific triple fatal crash on the Bruce Hwy, it can be revealed.

In a Facebook post shared at 6.35pm Thursday, 31-year-old Bec Alexander posted on Facebook that she had been held up at knifepoint behind a butcher on Young St.

She said she had parked her white Isuzu MU-X with pink personalised plates when she was approached by a man.

“I was car jacked,” she said in the post.

“A knife was pulled so...I got out but my car was stolen!”

Ms Alexander asked people to please “keep an eye out” as the “car was last seen heading north”.

Police issued a statement asking for help finding the vehicle, was allegedly stolen at knifepoint by a man in his 20s.

In a statement released several hours later, police said a man opened the driver’s door and then threatened her with a knife, demanding the vehicle.

They said she complied and was told to get out of the car too.

The man had been described as caucasian, early 20s, sandy blonde hair and was wearing a cap, light-coloured jumper, denim shorts with rips, red shoes and large sunglasses.

He drove off with the Isuzu and, at that time, had not been found.

Twelve hours later, about 4am, the Isuzu was involved in a horrific three car crash on the southbound lane of the Bruce Hwy at Federal, 30km south of Gympie.

The 65-year-old male driver of a silver Nissan Navara ute, and his 25-year-old female passenger, were killed.

The third vehicle involved, a blue Great Wall utility, was being driven by a 38-year-old man who also died at the scene.

A fourth man suffered head injuries and was taken to Gympie Hospital.

Police said Friday morning he was under guard and helping with their investigation.

Ms Alexander’s post drew an outpouring of support, with many calling it “terrifying” and expressing their thanks she and her three passengers were unharmed.

The post was shared more than 630 times by people trying to help find the car.

Judith Cumner said she hoped those responsible “are found and punished” while Robbie and Jodie Hutchins said” we hope you get your car back”.

Tahneeleigh Spedding simply called the incident “so f----d”
