A Widgee mother of three has avoided further time behind bars after pleading guilty to a “street level” drug dealing operation in which she supplied 12 customers across a two-month period.
Brisbane’s Supreme Court heard Astrid Jean Forrester Turner, 27, was the passenger in a car pulled over by police in a Southside car park on May 11, 2022.
Sentencing documents published online say during the stop police found a white Guess handbag in the car which the 27-year-old identified as hers.
Officers then found a mobile phone, methylamphetamine, a glass pipe, clip seal bags, a lighter and pick straws inside the bag.
Forrester Turner initially denied they were hers and claimed she did not have PIN to allow access to the phone, but handed the number over to officers a week later after being served with a police order, the court heard.
The unlocked phone revealed the 27-year-old had been involved in a “street level” meth trafficking business from March 15, 2022, to the date she was arrested.
The meth was trafficked in quantities of up to 10g “known amount” – for some deals the amount supplied was “unknown”.
Forrester Turner had 12 individual customers and also supplied a further two people who were friends of those “regular customers”.
“You regularly messaged your customers and actively sought buyers, and you supplied drugs to a customer who would drive you in order for you to make deliveries to customers,” Justice Sean Cooper said.
There were 36 deals in total, with the court hearing the meth was sold at rates of $75-$90 for 0.1g, $300-$350 for 0.5g, $700 for 1g, and $950 for 1.75g
The phone held a “tick list” which identified Forrester Turner was owed $265 in total from four customers.
Forrester Turner also supplied small amounts of marijuana, up to 7g, to three of her customers on three occasions and offered to supply it on a fourth.
The court heard the 27-year-old had a “very limited” criminal history.
Forrester Turner, a former retail worker at a pharmacy, suffered from postnatal depression following the birth of her second child and “relapsed into drug use”.
She had been drug free since April 1, 2023, the court heard.
She pleaded guilty to one count of trafficking, four counts of supplying dangerous drugs, and one count of possessing an item used in the commission of a crime.
Forrester Turner was sentenced to three years’ jail, and released on parole the same day owing to 66 days of time already served in pre-sentence custody.
