A message from Mayor Glen Hartwig

2021 has already been a big year for Gympie Regional Council and our community.

As we continue to move forward with our vision of growing the region and rebuilding the community’s confidence in council, a number of major changes have been made that will have positive outcomes for us now and into the future.

Part of that vision involves reviewing all of our systems and asking if there is a better way we can do things.

Council’s public swimming pools are part of that review and I would like to take the opportunity to announce that we are accepting tenders for the management and operation of council owned pools, which includes the Gympie Aquatic Recreation Centre (ARC), Goomeri Public Pool, Kandanga Public Pool, and Tin Can Bay Pool.

The $23 million ARC is one of the pools tenderers can apply to manage.

For decades, our pools have played an essential role in bringing locals together and building a strong community spirit.

I am calling on people, community groups and businesses that believe they have the passion, commitment, and the skills required, to submit an application.

During my time as Mayor, I have met so many passionate locals that I think have what it takes to do the job, and this tender allows applicants to select any number of our pools to manage, which opens the doors for others to apply.

I would also like to thank all of the council staff who worked tirelessly to put this tender together. You have all done a fantastic job ensuring that our region’s pools will be maintained to the highest of standards for years to come.

Submissions close 2pm Tuesday 18 May 2021.
