Operation Whiskey Legion charges 18 people on day one in Wide Bay
Police have targeting hooning hotspots in Gympie, Bundaberg and Hervey Bay on their first day of Operation Whiskey Legion. Read the details of those they’ve busted:

Day one of Operation Whiskey Legion’s deployment to the Wide Bay Burnett district has wrapped up with 18 people charged with 28 offences.
Extra specialist police arrived in the Gympie, Fraser Coast and Bundaberg on Thursday on a nine-day deployment to bolster local officer’s efforts to reduce crime in the community.
The major multi-level operation kicked off with a P plater recorded travelling 168km/h in a 100km/h speed zone.
The 26-year-old Jones Hill man was pulled over while traveling on the Old Bruce Highway in Kybong around 5.55am for speeding and was subsequently issued three traffic infringement notices for exceed speed limit in speed zone by more than 40km/h, P1 licence holder fail to display clearly legible red P plate(s) visible from 20m and drive/park vehicle when load not appropriately restrained, costing him a total of $2,434.
Several Highway Patrol units concluded the day by conducting high visibility patrols of known hooning hotspots including the Gympie, Hervey Bay and Bundaberg CBDs.
The enforcement patrols targeted defective vehicles and included static random breath and drug testing operations.
During patrols, police intercepted an 18-year-old Branyan man on Quay St, Bundaberg West around 8.25pm after allegedly doing a burn out in a white Ford Falcon.
The man was issued two TINs for drive vehicle in a way that makes unnecessary noise or smoke and drive/park or permit drive/park defective vehicle that does not comply with vehicle standards, worth a total of $677.
He also tested positive for cannabis in a roadside drug test (RDT) but those results are awaiting confirmatory analysis.
These examples of TINs issued are just five of 94 that were issued across the district yesterday.
Road safety remains a key priority for the Wide Bay Burnett district and will continue to be a key focus for Operation Whiskey Legion.
The community can expect to see a heavy police presence targeting dangerous driving on the roads and beaches, including hooning behaviour.
