The Transport and Main Roads Department on Thursday responded to concerns about a dangerous intersection with the Bruce Highway at Curra, and said the intersection was ‘not dangerous’ and therefore not a high priority for upgrade.

Curra father Carl Stevens raised concerns about the intersection of David Drive and the highway on Tuesday after his daughter was involved in what could have been a tragic accident there six weeks ago.

A TMR spokesperson said a review of the intersection had been carried out recently, and deemed it not dangerous.

“The review identified the intersection is performing as it should and is a low priority for an upgrade as it is not dangerous,” they said.

“A speed limit review was undertaken in October 2020 on the Bruce Highway which determined the existing 100km/h speed limit is appropriate.

“We have reviewed the ‘stop’ sign and barrier at the intersection and have found there is good visibility.

“TMR values the importance of road rules and encourages all motorists to comply with regulatory signs and drive to the conditions.”
