15-year cafe veteran turns hand to own venture

When Lisa Priddy signed up as a Menulog driver for a little extra cash, she never expected to become a businesswoman.

After completing the lengthy sign-up process and paying for background checks, Lisa was stunned to find out there were no restaurants requiring drivers in Gympie.

As she found out, they instead rely on in-house delivery drivers, within a small radius.

Lisa is no stranger to delivery driving, working as a parts interpreter and delivery driver for a local auto parts store.

She said she had been posting about her issues with Menulog on a local community Facebook group and was receiving countless messages of support.

“I thought I had enough people interested, so I’d just do my own thing,” she said.

That prompted her to start the ‘Lisa’s Food Delivery Gympie’ Facebook page and make use of the insulated bag she had bought from Menulog.

Customers hoping to have food delivered to their door can message Lisa through Facebook.

From there, she will drive to the restaurant and pick up the meal, before personally delivering it to the customer. She will deliver within a 15km radius of the restaurant the food is coming from.

Lisa said her top priority was to keep the service simple for customers and support local businesses in the process.

“I don’t have fancy apps or anything like that,” she said.

“I’m just keeping it basic.”

The deliveries are completed for a fixed fee.

At this stage, the service is cash only but Lisa hopes to purchase an EFTPOS square in the near future.

Business was slow to start, but she is hopeful it will pick up before too long.

“I want to make sure it’s going to be something that keeps flowing,” she said.
