A 56-year-old Gympie man had to be restrained by hospital security after trying to “punch on” with his pregnant partner’s ex at the Gympie Hospital on May 23.

Reginald John Marshall pleaded guilty to public nuisance in Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday, after he threatened to continue a fight from two days earlier upon seeing his pregnant partner’s ex-partner and carer in front of the Gympie Emergency Department.

Police prosecutor Daniel Poole told the court Marshall was called to the hospital by his friend on the Sunday afternoon, when he saw the man and approached him, arguing and threatening to fight him.

Hospital security intervened and separated the two men, and police were called to the scene.

Marshall’s defence lawyer Neesha Maidwell said her client reacted negatively to the sight of the man due to his protective nature over his partner, who was six months pregnant.

Magistrate Chris Callaghan said Marshall needed to “stop punching on and upsetting people”.

The other man in the argument was not charged.

Marshall was sentenced to a month behind bars, suspended for 12 months.
