Gympie man denied bail after being charged with 14 crimes

A 25-year-old Gympie region man has been denied bail on 14 charges including strangulation, deprivation of liberty, assault and leaving a woman bound and tied in a state forest.

Police will allege that on one occasion a woman was driven to the Toolara State Forest, where her hands were zip tied behind her back and her feet bound with string. A man drove off before returning a short time later and cutting the woman free, before he then made her walk on a dirt track for a considerable distance, before allowing her to re-enter the vehicle when another car approached.

He returned a short time later and cut her free, before he made her walk on the dirt track for some distance, only allowing her to re-enter the car when another car approached.

On another occasion, the man allegedly punched the woman in the face before grabbing her around the neck and choking her while she was in a headlock, continually punching her face and restricting her breathing.

It was also alleged he drove the woman to Toolara Forest again, where he placed her in a headlock and choked her while she was in the car.

He then allegedly made her sit in the dirt before he allowed her back in the car, where she was punched and assaulted again.

He was denied police bail and will reappear in the Gympie Magistrates Court for mention on August 2.
