Police have arrested and charged two Gympie men, a 24-year-old man and a 21-year old with grievous bodily harm.
They were due to appear in Gympie Magistrates Court Monday afternoon.
At a press conference held Monday morning, acting Wide Bay Burnett Detective Inspector Wade Lee said the three men were known to each other and it was an “isolated event”.
“The investigation to-date has established there is a dispute over moneys owed,” Inspector Lee said.
Investigators were exploring whether the alleged incident started at the hotel, he said.
The 24-year-old was arrested at a Horseshoe Bend in the hours following the alleged assault, and the 21-year-old was arrested “over subsequent days”.
Inspector Lee said police are now “considering charges of murder”.
