Main Roads investigates traffic lights

THE Department of Main Roads is investigating why new traffic signals at the Bruce Highway and Monkland Street intersection failed on Sunday.

THE Department of Main Roads is investigating why new traffic signals at the Bruce Highway and Monkland Street intersection failed on Sunday.

The lights were flashing amber for most of the day causing some motorists concern while negotiating the upgraded multilane intersection.

“Initial investigations indicate that some internal components of the signal box were found to be damaged and required specialised replacement parts,” a Main Roads spokesperson said.

The problem was fixed at about 6.30pm and the Main Roads spokesperson said they would continue to monitor the signals closely.

The Bruce Highway and Monkland Street intersection is now almost complete with all lanes now open to traffic.

“Line marking and some asphalt work in Monkland Street is expected to be completed during the next few weeks,” she said.

Final works of stage two of the Bruce Highway upgrade at Gympie are in full swing and be completed in two months weather permitting.
