Letter: Just who does the National Party represent these days?

(National Party politicians) do go to the odd ag mate or go to their abattoir mates to get some happy snaps, and that may appear that the Nats are for farmers.

But #thenats never have a happy snap with any low income hard worker or a renter spending more than half their wage on rent. Never a pic with a couch surfer doing it tough.

• As a small enterprise farmer I have never thought the Nats represented me.
• I was not born into wealth and privilege and I didn’t believe the Nats represented the poor and impoverished. Even though their seats were low wage regions.
• As a victim of crime, I believed the Nats never represented any victim of crime.
• As a daughter of a WW2 veteran, I never believed the Nats represented the men and women who were forced to go to war.
• As an ex smoker, I never believed the Nats fought to help the addicted give up. Just raise taxes on the poor and impoverished. Knowing the addicted will keep smoking. None of the tobacco taxes come back to the regions for improved health care. We have very few bulk billing GP’s and the public hospital keeps people alive until their is a bed available at a better serviced public hospital.
• As a mum , #thenats have done nothing for renters, just inflated the price of private housing, created a rental crisis and inflated a basic human right because of all the money printing. But when I look at who likes and pat the Nats on the back, I would say their base are people born into wealth and privilege and

Many people don’t want to identify as poor, so they get on board with #thenats hating the poorer.

So any wonder the Nats will never win government and never be in charge of the federal treasury.
