Southside residents are being spared a trip across the Mary River for their mail with Australia Post opening a new centre at Exhibition Rd.
The shop will replace the depot previously open at the Southside store.
It was closed amid development plans for the shop, with plans unveiled to tear it down and build a 7/11 service station on the land.
The new centre is larger than the closed depot.
Narelle Tompkins previously worked as a manager for the store next door, Gympie Embroidery Services, when Australia Post contacted her asking if to manage their new store two weeks prior to opening.
“We really felt the Southside needed this facility,” she said.
An Australia Post spokesman said the organisation had remained committed to keeping a mail centre open in Gympie’s south.
“Following the decision by the operator of the Community Postal Agency (CPA) at Southside to close, Australia Post sought an alternative location on the south side of the town,” he said.
We are pleased to announce that the new Southside CPA at 35 Exhibition Road Gympie is now open to service the local community.”
A new brand new Australia post store has opened up in Southside providing more residents with better accessibilities to postal services.
The post office will be combined with the embroidery store until further notice and will be open from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
