A BEER honouring fallen Gympie digger Corporal Ashley Birt is back on the tap this Anzac Day and it's not too late to have a taste.
Birty's Bitter, crafted by Cpl Birt's friend and fellow serviceman Nick Wiseman, was proving popular at the Royal Hotel this morning as customers wandered in after the Anzac Day March and Citizen's Meeting.
The ale will be served for the rest of the night at the hotel, which will be open until late.
Royal Hotel patron Cameron Smith described the brew as a "good, smooth beer".
A donation from the sale of every schooner of Birty's Bitter sold will go to The Walking with the Wounded organisation. The organisation raises funds to help retrain and re-skill wounded military service people, and helps find them new careers outside the military.
The Royal Hotel wrote on their Facebook page:
"We do this in memory of our much loved hometown boy and wonderful human being, Ash Birt who was killed in active duty on the 29th of October 2011 in Afghanistan, aged 22."
"So come in, we'll sing a few songs and help support this cause in this small way while havin a beer in memory of Ash."
"Birty's Bitter - An easy going beer dedicated to an easy going bloke".
"We have so much to be thankful for living in this beautiful country of ours. I hope you get a chance to pay your respects in some way, to the men and women who serve our country and to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for us all.
"We will remember them..."
