A DELIRIOUS ice user who was tasered by police after he caused a scene on the Bruce Hwy last month was jailed yesterday.
Beau Leslie Alistar Stuart, 26, of Gympie, will be released on Christmas Eve after he was sentenced on seven charges in Gympie Magistrates Court.
The court heard police responded to a call on November 9 about a man causing havoc near Gympie's Hungry Jack's.
On arrival, police found the man high on ice and running towards the highway.
Police chased the man on foot, blocked the road and due to his erratic and dangerous behaviour drew a firearm and tasered the defendant to arrest him.
Police reported the man was acting deliriously, sweating profusely and showing abnormal strength.
The man, who needed minor surgery to remove one of the taser probes, was taken to hospital, where he had to be sedated and restrained.
Magistrate M. Baldwin told Stuart he would lose the right to live in the community if he chose to take ice.
"In reality I'm actually sentencing you for being an ice user," she said.
"The community doesn't have to put up with this."
Stuart will be released from prison on December 24 where he will follow strict drug testing for two months as part of his probation.
He was also given a two-year suspended sentence and 40 hours community service for other charges including trespass and wilful damage.
