Missing Widgee teenager found

A 15-year-old boy missing from Widgee since Saturday, July 29, has been safely located during a search and rescue.

A teenager reported missing in the Wrattens Forest area of Widgee, about 50km west of Gympie and three hours north of Brisbane, was found on Monday.

The alarm was raised and a searched launched on Sunday after the 15-year-old boy was not seen after Wednesday, July 26, 2023.

But by midday on Monday police had released a statement saying he had been found.

Police said he was wearing a black hoodie, cream shorts, a dark green cap and red, white and black Nike shoes.

He was reported missing on Sunday, after his family and friends had not heard from him for the past three days.

A search and rescue operation is underway and includes SES officers and a rescue helicopter, a statement from the police said.

Wrattens Forest, west of Gympie and just south of Blacksnake and Widgee is mountainous terrain with mostly conserved bushland.

Both police and his family are concerned he has been injured or lost in the terrain.

Police are asking for any assistance in locating the boy, for landowners and residents to check their properties for him, and anyone who may have seen him to contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
