The owners thanked the local community on Facebook, saying their support has been “fantastic”.

“Repairs and clean up is nearly complete and Hobbit House will be open for all to enjoy again by this weekend.”

EARLIER:

Gympie’s quaint and delightful Hobbit House on River Rd has been forced to close temporarily after three children supervised by an adult went on a violent rampage through the sculpture garden, smashing windows and damaging property.

The group pulled up at the Hobbit House in a white sedan at 1:05pm on Sunday (June 6) and started to destroy various parts of the garden.

The owner of the Hobbit House took to Facebook to call out the behaviour and shared footage of those involved.

“All windows are smashed, gardens trampled, solar lights smashed,” they said on Facebook.

“We can't believe it … everyone has been very supportive of our little garden project and those who have visited have been lovely.

“We’ve met some truly awesome people and so that makes it even harder to understand this random act of destruction.”

The video depicts a male adult watching three children run around and cause devastation to the garden that was left unattended for just an hour.

“So upsetting and disappointing,” the owner said.

As a result of the rampage, broken glass was scattered throughout the garden, making it unsafe for visitors.

The owner responded to comments of followers asking how they could help, by saying the rebuild would take time and resources.

“Thanks for the offer but everything is hand made from recycled stuff, so apart from round glass nothing can be bought,” they said.

The reactions of Hobbit House followers were much the same, with many calling the behaviour “disgusting” and “disrespectful”.

“That is disgusting! Grubs!!! And an adult what type of role model is this someone has done something great that gives people joy,” one person commented.

“That’s terrible they have no respect for someone else’s property. I hope they are caught,” another wrote.

The owners of Hobbit House are urging anyone who has dashcam footage of the car or knows any information to contact Gympie police.
