When eight-year-old Hannah Raines cuts all her hair off this month, she’ll have one special person on her mind.
The Cooloola Christian College student is braving the chop to have a wig made for children with cancer, not only because it’s a good cause, but also to honour her grandma who lost her battle with the disease.
She’s been growing her “lovely locks” for three years, keeping it long for the moment at Roma Salon on August 28 when it will all come off.
Hannah’s generous donation of hair will be transformed into a wig through Wigs 4 Kids and any money raised will go straight to the Kids with Cancer Foundation to assist families that have a child with cancer.
“I'm raising money to help relieve the financial burden from families that have a child being treated for a cancer diagnosis,” Hannah said.
“I have saved my hair just for this.
“Please donate to my fundraiser and share with your family and friends, together we can all make a difference.”

Hannah’s mother Stevie Raines said she was shocked when her “compassionate” and “empathetic” daughter came to her and asked if she could donate her hair.
“She found out that kids lost their hair due to cancer and she knows how much her hair means to her and how hard it is for these children just having to go through cancer in general so she took it upon herself to offer her hair,” Mrs Raines said.
“She also lost her grandma to cancer.”
Mrs Raines said Hannah was always thinking of ways to help others and since making the mature decision, hadn’t looked back.
“I am extremely proud of who she is as a person,” she said.
Mrs Raines also said the Cooloola Christian College school community had rallied behind Hannah and everyone in her life is “really proud” of her.

“She feels so supported and excited to be able to do this,” she said.
“When people make a donation they can make a note and I read her the notes from who has donated through the day and it just has her in tears, it’s the cutest thing.”
