Gympie sports stars break 10-year drought at state schools titles

Gympie football stars Mason Drescher, Jake Nalder and Tristan Venz helped break a 10-year streak for the Wide Bay Under-16 school boys football team at the weekend.

Gympie football stars Mason Drescher, Jake Nalder (team captain) and Tristan Venz helped break a 10-year streak for the Wide Bay Under-16 school boys football team at the weekend, steering the team to a bronze finish - the first time it had made the top four in more than a decade.

The Qld School Sports 13-16 Years Boys Football State Championships were held at the Fraser Coast Sports Precinct in Hervey Bay from May 27-30, and the end results in the U16s was the first time in more than 10 years that Wide Bay team placed in the top four.

Sadly for Tristan, an injury meant he had to sit the final game out.
