Students at Gympie South State School had an exciting day in class when they threw a surprise bridal shower for their teacher.

The girls donned their veils and the boys wore their most dapper bow ties as they walked their beloved teacher down the aisles of the school grounds.

Gympie South State School deputy principal Rachael Alexander said the day was a labour of love for the students.

“[The students] loved it, they thought it was very very cool,” Ms Alexander said.

“It was really quite cute.”

Activities included throwing the bouquet and recording a video message to play on Ms Irwin’s wedding day.

Ms Alexander said the bride’s response was understated but very positive.

“She was very excited,” Ms Alexander said.

“Nat’s very modest, but I think she was quite taken with just how much effort everyone went to.

“She’s only been at our school since the beginning of 2022 … so she’s certainly made an impact!”

Natalie Irwin was married on Thursday, September 8, to Nick Swan.

The blushing bride is now on her honeymoon in New Zealand and was unavailable for comment.
