Gympie Relay for Life is ready to paint the town purple

Relay for Life teams are invited to decorate an ‘area’ of the Gympie region in as much purple as possible - this could be a shopfront, home or paddock.

This week the Gympie Region community will paint the region purple to mark the launch of the 2021 Gympie Region Relay For Life.

Relay For Life Relay For Life brings communities together to celebrate cancer survivorship, remember loved ones lost and empower teams of families, friends and colleagues to raise money to fight back against cancer.

Cancer Council Queensland will be running a Paint the Region Purple competition to encourage the community to get involved in this year’s Relay For Life. Teams are invited to decorate an area of the Gympie Region in as much purple as possible, this could be a shopfront, home or paddock – anywhere you get permission to do so.

Gympie Region Face of Relay James Watt said he was excited to see the Gympie Region go purple to launch this year’s Relay For Life.

“Turning your, school, business or front yard purple next week is a great way to spread awareness about this year’s Relay For Life in support of all Queenslanders affected by cancer,” James said.

“I’m excited to see the region go purple and even more excited for Relay For Life.

“By registering a team or donating you will be joining the fight against cancer.”

Participating in Relay For Life is a great way to support the endeavours of Cancer Council Queensland and help make a vital difference right here in your local community.

Every dollar raised goes towards funding Cancer Council Queensland’s vital research, prevention and support programs, many of which help people in your community every day.
Cancer Council Queensland CEO Chris McMillan said this year’s Gympie Region Relay For Life would be unforgettable.

“The community can expect an action-packed day on Saturday, 30 October during this year’s Gympie Region Relay For Life,” Ms McMillan said.

“By joining the Gympie Region Relay For Life, you will give hope to locals affected by cancer and help us get one step closer to a cancer free future.

“Please register a team or donate to your local Relay For Life - together, we’re an unstoppable force and can stop cancer in its tracks.”

Relay For Life is an event for everyone – no matter your age, or fitness level, you can get involved and make a difference.
To enter the Paint the Region Purple competition teams must submit photos of their finished product via the Facebook event, Gympie Region Relay for Life 2021, no later than 5pm June 6. Judging will be finalised on Wednesday, June 9, and winning teams will be announced on Facebook.
