Gympie MG opens dealership with Madill’s Motor Group

An exciting new businesses at Monkland has defied some of the massive challenges facing the car industry in Australia to set a blistering pace since its January 2022 launch. Details here:

Gympie MG joins Madill's Motor Group

The Gympie region has its first MG dealership operating out of one of the biggest car businesses in the region.

Gympie MG, which is a part of the Madill Motor Group, had a “soft launch” at the start of 2022, and according to Madill Motor Group general manager Simon Guthrie, business has been booming.

“We’ve worked with MG the brand for some time to get it into Gympie … we got approval for the franchise late last year and we started a really soft launch in January,” Mr Guthrie said.

Simon Guthrie from Madill’s Motor Group, Gympie, says business is booming for Gympie MG despite a “soft launch” of the brand locally in January.

He said the MG brand had expanded quicker than the company first anticipated.

Despite the success, however, the brand chose to operate under Madill’s due to being too small to be a stand-alone dealership in Gympie at this stage.

“MG wanted to partner with a proven performer; you know, the more cars we sell the more money they make,” he said.

Madill’s, one of Gympie’s oldest and most successful family businesses, was bought by Brisbane based motor company, Motorama, in January 2020.

Motorama owns the MG franchise in Brisbane, and is one of the biggest MG dealers in Australia, Mr Guthrie said.

“Certainly, that did help us when putting our case forward,” he said.

The new dealership comes as the Australian car parts shortage continues, driving the price of used cars skyward while those in the market for a new car have been forced to wait months.

Despite a successful start, Mr Guthrie said MG was not unaffected by the ongoing shortages, with a higher demand for the new cars than supply could keep up with.

Simon Guthrie said MG was not unaffected by the ongoing used car shortage, which has persisted for almost 12 months.

“Because there are larger wait times with a lot of new car products, a lot of people then opt for used cars … but there’s not a lot of used cars coming through, and it puts a lot of pressure on used cars

“I think in the next 12 months we will still be seeing supply issues for used cars.”

Despite this, he said MG Gympie had sold about 12 new cars in the space of a month.
