A 43-year-old Gympie region man has been jailed for selling meth and spitting on his ex partner in a domestic violence offence.

A Gympie region man has been jailed for selling meth to a police officer on the very same day he received a suspended sentence in court, as well as spitting on his ex-partner in an aggravated domestic violence offence.

The 43-year-old man appeared in the Gympie District Court dock on Thursday, July 15, to be sentenced on two charges of supplying meth, two charges of contravening a domestic violence order with aggravating features, as well as a summary charge of possessing marijuana.

He had previously pleaded guilty to all charges before the court.

The court heard the man supplied an officer with a clip seal bag containing about 0.238g of meth, 0.149g of which was pure, for $150 on March 20.

The next day he met with same officer and supplied them with another 0.497g bag for $150, 0.37g of which was pure meth.

The man committed those offences while he was serving two wholly suspended sentences made previously in the Gympie Magistrates Court, while he had also been in court earlier that very day.

On February 24 and 25 this year the man breached both sentences again, as well as a domestic violence order made against him in August 2019 when he contacted his ex-partner “several times” and repeatedly went to her house.

At about 7pm on the latter date the man returned to the house, assaulting and verbally abusing the victim after she noticed a used sanitary pad in her rubbish and asked if he had had anyone else over.

The court heard he told the woman “I didn’t have anyone here, you’re f***** in the head”.

He then spat on the victim as he left the house.

The man was arrested and taken into custody on March 4, with 0.55g of marijuana found on him at that time.

“If you can’t have a healthy relationship you need to forget about it and move on,” Judge Nathan Jarro told the man in his sentencing remarks.

Judge Jarro noted the man had never been to jail prior to his March arrest, as well as his good behaviour since being taken into custody.

The man was given a head sentence of 20 months’ jail, with his parole release date set for September 3. The court noted the man had spent 133 days in pre-sentence custody between March 4 and July 14.
