Gympie, Mary Valley police crack down on speeding

Kandanga, Amamoor and Dagun have been hot spots for speeding in the past month, with men from Imbil and Lagoon Pocket among those pulled over for being 30km/h over the limit.

Gympie and Imbil police busted 30 speed demons endangering their own and other people’s lives in the Mary Valley in January 2023, and expressed their “disappointment” at how many drivers were breaking the law on our rural roads. They urged drivers to remember that speeding is a Fatal Five factor, along with not wearing seat belts, drink or drug driving, fatigue and distraction.

Speeding has a direct consequence on your life and those around you.

The following drivers were fined $646 and lost four demerit points for exceeding the speed limit by more than 20km/h but not more than 30km/h.

At 7.02am on Sunday, January 8, a 60-year-old Booroobin man was detected travelling at 110km/h in an 80km/h zone on Mary Valley Road, Kandanga.

At 4.25pm on Monday, January 23, a 29-year-old Imbil man was detected travelling at 110km/h in an 80km/h zone on Mary Valley Road, Kandanga.

At 5pm on that same day, a 47-year-old Lagoon Pocket man was detected travelling at 113km/h in an 80km/h zone on Mary Valley Road, Dagun.

At 12.32pm on Saturday, January 28, a 44-year-old Woombye man was detected travelling at 126km/h in an 100km/h zone on Mary Valley Link Road, Amamoor.

Nineteen drivers were detected exceeding the speed limit in a speed zone by at least 11km/h but not more than 20km/h, copping a $431 fine and losing three demerit points.

Seven drivers were detected exceeding the speed limit in speed zone by less than 11km/h, and were fined $287 and lost one point.
