Gympie golf legend Del Groundwater wins Player of the Month for May

Bleak weather prevents some Gympie golfing action, but is unable to stop the unstoppable Del Groundwater from taking out the May Player of the Month award with an impressive 110 points.

Last Wednesday June 2, because of the bleak and horrible weather, no comp was played.

Saturday (Jun 5), in perfect golfing weather, ladies played a Stroke competition for the June Monthly Medal sponsored by Neilson, Stanton and Parkinson.

Overall winner and Division 2 medal winner was Marj Dakin (74) on a countback from Del Groundwater. Del was the winner of the Division 1 medal. Well Done both of you. Ball Rundown: Grace Kelleher (76), Jean Peters, Lorraine Elliott (78), Carol Ward, Maureen Carroll (80). Marj won the Seniors’ comp and Jean Peters won the putting with an amazing 23 putts. Some great golf played over the 18 holes but no birdies.

 Player of the Month for May was Del Groundwater (110 points) with Claire Thorburn (103 points). Well played ladies.

Two of our ladies went to Cooroy last week for their Open Day. Great day and to quote Jean – ‘no result day but Annette did win a couple of prizes in the raffle”.

Saturday (12/6) ladies are scheduled to play a Stableford competition. Wednesday (16/06) ladies will play for the Wednesday, Monthly Medal with Seniors‘ and Putting comps.

Open Days scheduled for June include: Pelican Waters (17/6), Mt Coolum (23/6), Headland (28/6) and North Coast Zone Silver and Bronze Championships – Maroochy River (21/6).
