Gympie, get ready: the Beast is back.

The 40m-high thrill ride will once again dominate the Gympie Show skyline as one of the top attractions down Sideshow Alley, which fires up on Thursday.

The winner of Best Carnival Ride 2021 at the Sydney Royal Easter Show and largest mobile ride in Australia will once again be swinging local thrill seekers high and wide, and this time it will have some company.

Joining it for 2021 is a second 40m-tall ride - Speed 2.

This monster, capable of catering to 240 people every hour, puts passengers at the end of an extended arm and swings them 360 degrees.

Guests who would prefer to get their thrills without reaching great heights may want to look to The Extreme, which the Show Society said was “back by popular demand”.

Riders are flipped around in their seats as though attached to propellers, swiftly increasing the likelihood of screams (and possibly their lunch) making an appearance.

This year’s thrill ride menu also includes a visitor from the northern hemisphere: Soundwave.

The British ride guaranteed to put a unique spin on the fun and best described, the Show Society said, as “a massive thrill ride surrounded by a huge nightclub”.

Tickets for this ride cost $10 per person, or a family pack of four costs $35. Ride tickets down Sideshow Alley range from $5-$15 this year.

This year’s headlining attraction will be joined by a number of family favourites, including the carousel, ferris wheels, dodgem cars, the Joy Whizzer, the Cliff Hanger and the Big Whizzer.

Motorbikes, an array of children’s rides and bungee trampolines will expand families’ options considerably, making sure there’s fun to be found by all ages at this year’s event.

The first Gympie Show event begins at 7.30am Thursday morning.
