Gympie’s memorial park was overrun on Wednesday, as a record crowd turned out to celebrate Australia Day and welcome newly minted Australian citizens to Gympie.
Despite the threat of rain and sweltering heat, hundreds of people flooded the park with Australian flags and sausage sizzles in hand.
As well as celebrating the public holiday, many turned out to celebrate newly minted Australian Citizens or to congratulate the winners of the 2022 Australia Day Awards.
