Lingering morning fog did not get in the way of thousands of people attending the Anzac Day parade in Mary Street on Thursday to commemorate the region’s servicemen and women.
The event started at 9.30am, with marchers and onlookers gathering beforehand.
Lone charger horses led the way to remember the fallen.
They were followed by vintage vehicles, containing veterans who were unable to march.
One of the vehicles could not start, so several helpers pushed it down Mary St.
This year marks 25 years since Interfet, so East Timor veterans led the march.
Right at the front was Lyall Ferguson, who served in Korea, Malaya, Borneo and Vietnam.
Mr Ferguson was driven by wheelchair down Mary St, with his grandson, great grandson and great granddaughter walking beside him.
The family planned to continue the event at the RSL for lunch.

Gympie Hospital was a training hospital, and the capes have been preserved.
Melissa Orman and fellow nurse representative Liz Hogan planned to spend the rest of Anzac day “playing two-up with the old boys”.
