Popular Gunalda campground Hangar O has unveiled plans to expand its tourism offerings by adding a number of glampsites and cabins.
Park owners Darren and Samantha Hocking have lodged an application with Gympie Regional Council’s planning department, asking for permission to give the park a facelift over five stages.
The first stage has already been completed and involved the addition of four glamping tents and a swimming pool.
Stage two is now underway and will add another glamping tent, a 25-site campground, amenities block with toilets, showers and a laundry, a shelter and kiosk that can cater for a coffee truck, and the transformation of a granny flat on the land into a one-bedroom cabin.
The third stage will actually reduce the number of campsites from 25 to 15 while adding three more glamping tents and another one-bedroom cabin.
A barn will be added in stage four and a caretaker’s home in the final stage.
The canvas tents will have an elevated “safari-like” deck.
The cabins will be solar powered.
Hangar O opened its gates off the Bruce Highway near Gunalda in 2018, on a 64ha block about 3km north of Curra Creek.
