Goomeri town gets makeover with skate park, pumpkin mural and footpath

A western flung Gympie region town has been given a well-deserved makeover, with a shiny new skate park, art mural and footpath.

Residents of the small, but well-known Gympie region town of Goomeri, have had their calls answered as multiple projects have been completed in recent weeks.

Gympie Regional Council recently completed works at the Goomeri Skate Park, with the facility now featuring modern concrete finish ramps with wider tops and two recreational handball courts.

Costing a little over $100k, the Goomeri Skate Park supported 25 jobs within the region while in construction and was funded by the Queensland Government’s Works 4 Qld program.

Councillor Bruce Deveraux praised the completed project on Facebook saying it was a bargain price.

The refreshed Goomeri mural, footpath and skate park have all been completed.

“I don't even skate and I think this revitalised facility is so incredibly impressive, especially for that money,” Mr Devereaux said.

“Well done again, CEO Shane Gray and all staff involved in achieving this for the Goomeri community and surrounds.”

Earlier in the week, the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival mural on the Bunya Highway was finally refreshed after 18 years.

Co-ordinator Kim Boyter said the new mural was completed by the original artist Willie Nelson said his son David who put a refreshing spin on the image that has stood the test of time.

The painting is expected to be around for the next 25 years to continue the promotion and branding of the festival and town.

“The association would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the in-kind sponsorship of the owner of the shed on which the mural appears, Mr Don Louis,” Ms Boyter said.

“Don’s dedication and commitment to both the town and Pumpkin Festival has been unwavering.”

The new footpath has reached completion.

Other works that have contributed to the modernisation of the town include a 166m long footpath stretching from Moore St to Maudsley St.

The footpath is a joint initiative by the Queensland Government through the Transport Infrastructure and Development Scheme and Gympie Regional Council.
