Glen Hartwig reveals vision for Gympie in 2022

Gympie’s Mayor has revealed where the council’s priorities lie for the new year as the councillors head towards the midpoint of this four-year election term.

Better roads, water and infrastructure will remain the council’s primary focus in 2022 as Gympie’s councillors heads towards the halfway point of this four-year election term.

Mayor Glen Hartwig said these core council responsibilities will remain the priority as part of the council’s vision for the new year which unfortunately includes dealing with Covid.

“Unfortunately, it appears we will be navigating our way through this issue in 2022 as positive cases continue to rise,” Mr Hartwig said.

“However, there has been a lot of good things achieved in our region this year which deserve to be celebrated, including the return of the Gympie Show, hosting the Accent Benchtops Rally Queensland, and installing the First Nations Monument in Memorial Park, just to name a few.”

Rainbow Beach will play host to New Year’s Eve fireworks originally scheduled for 2020 before Covid restrictions forced the event to be cancelled.

This list included the return of the New Year’s Eve fireworks at Rainbow Beach, cancelled because of restrictions installed to prevent the virus in 2020.

“It was more than disappointing last year when we had to cancel last year’s fireworks display at Rainbow Beach due to COVID-19, but we’re back this year,” he said.

It was part of an ongoing effort to spread the New Year’s festivity to the edges of the region.

“Our plan has always been to share the event across the region by bringing fireworks to the valley, the west, and back to Gympie in the future. We are one region and it is important for council to support all areas equally.”
