A major transformation is in the works for the centre of Gympie with new plans unveiled to build a new service station opposite KFC.
Developer Haribol Qld Gympie has lodged an application with Gympie Regional Council to open the centre near the intersection of the Bruce Hwy and Channon St.
The land is occupied by a timber house; it and other existing structures on the site would be bulldozed.
The proposed development would include a new service station, food outlet and car wash.
An economic need and impact assessment by Foresight Partners says about 21,000 cars pass the land each day.

It would be competing in a market in which there was “currently 16 service stations and 64 food and drink outlets identified” within a nine kilometre radius.
The report says the city centre traffic and commerce made it possible for the new service station, if approved, to achieve total sales of more than $6m while the food outlet could generate about $1.2m in sales.
If approved it would be the second major redevelopment in the area.
In 2021 the land opposite, once home to the popular Brodies fast food chain before it shut, was rebuilt to become the new home of Supercheap Auto.
