Fire crews at Wolvi as fast-moving fire rips through bushland

About 20 fire crews are on scene as a “fast-moving” fire moves through bushland at Wolvi. Residents near Gympie are being told to prepare to leave.

Residents of Wolvi near Gympie are being told to prepare to leave, with a fast-moving fire rips through bushland.

According to the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service, residents near Gympie have been issued with a noticed to prepare to leave.

Current information on warnings

The warning area includes Ryan Road, Wolvi Mountain Road, Vines Road, Sunshine Road, Neusa Vale Road and Mcintyre Road.

A fast-moving fire is travelling south between Wolvi Mountain Road and Sunshine Road.

Conditions could get worse quickly.

QFES warns that firefighters are working to contain the fire, however residents should not expect a firefighter at their door.

What you should do:

- If you have a bushfire survival plan, refer to it now.

- Decide where you and other members of your home (including pets) will go if you need to leave. Plan how you will get there and advise family and friends of your plans.

- Avoid driving on Wolvi Mountain Road and Sunshine Road

- Pack essential items such as important documents, food and water, medications, and protective clothing.

- Stay hydrated.

- Avoid smoke – stay indoors, close windows and doors, and avoid driving through smoke where possible.

- Move flammable items away from your house.

- Fill containers with water for drinking and firefighting.

- Help others prepare for the fire.

- Be aware of firefighters working in the area.

- Stay informed:

- If your life or property is threatened, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
