When Farmer Wants A Wife premieres on Channel 7 on Sunday, April 14, at 7pm, Gympie region residents will recognise one of their own.
Third generation watermelon and cattle farmer Dean Blanckensee has lived in Kandanga his whole life, and plays rugby league for the Mary Valley Stags.
The 25-year-old said it was “bloody fantastic” to be back on his farm after filming wrapped up.
“It’s what I love to do,” he said.
Dean said he could not imagine going on the show “even five years ago”, but it was his mates that convinced him.
His friends are all in relationships or married now, and they wanted to see him find love too.
Dean said the transition from a private life to an overwhelming public one was “eye opening”, as was the change from a rural setting to big city life.
Dean discussed the struggle of searching for love with a camera in his face, but said “you’ve just go to be yourself”.
“You’ve got one shot. You’ve got to make it count,” he said.

After returning to the Mary Valley at the end of the shooting, he said he wanted everyone to remember “I’m still Deano and love a beer at the end of the day”, and he was no different than the man he was before the show.
He discussed the shock twist that one of the women was in love with someone at home, and said it “rocked the boat”.
“End of the day, I’m definitely here for love, it’s the one thing that’s missing in my life,” he said in the show’s trailer.
Dean encouraged Gympie region residents to watch the show to see if he finds a love to bring home.
