The owner of land once part of a large dairy farm south of Gympie is looking to give it a new lease of life by transforming into a “boutique” wedding venue.
Landowner Doreen Warren is seeking planning permission to transform a 36.6ha property at Coles Creek, about 25km south of Gympie and 40km from Noosa, into a private function venue ideally suited for weddings.
The applicants say in the document lodged with Gympie Regional Council it would primarily be a wedding venue for “boutique hinterland weddings”.
The venue itself would consists of a 6.3m high chapel for ceremonies, 6.2m high barn with a veranda for receptions, on-site toilets, and 16 parking spaces.
Expected demand for the venue, which would be located 600m west of the Bruce Hwy and at the edge of the border with Noosa Shire, would come from not only Gympie, but the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane, the applicants say.

Under the proposal, which was lodged in February and has not yet been approved, guest numbers would be capped at 80 and it would be limited to one function each week.
The functions would be restricted to 1-10.30pm, while workers and caterers would be able to pack up and clear out from 8am-11pm.

The block was previously used as a dairy farm and once “part of a larger farm”, the application says.
Transforming it into a wedding venue “will provide economic benefits to the local economy and support a range of local
business including accommodation, food and drink, retail, tourism and entertainment uses”.
