Emergency services and rescue choppers kept busy in Gympie region over weekend

A Mary Valley man has died and the rescue choppers made two trips to Gympie over the weekend following a spate of terrible crashes on country roads.

Emergency services were kept busy in and around the Gympie region over the weekend attending a series of car accidents on rural roads, the most serious a fatality near Eidsvold that claimed the life of a man from the North Burnett.

The motorcycle crash occurred about 4.30pm on Sunday when the rider came off his bike at Eidsvold East. First responders tried to revive the 39-year-old but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

In another tragedy, a Mary Valley man died in the early hours of this morning (Monday) as a result of injuries he received in a crash on Thursday, May 27.

The Kenilworth man died after he had to be cut from his dual cab ute following a two-vehicle crash on the Maleny Montville Rd and Landsborough Maleny Road. The 71-year-old passed away in the early hours of Monday with his family by his side.

Closer to home, a man in his 30s was airlifted from Curra by the Land Rover LifeFlight Special Mission helicopter on Sunday afternoon, after a dirt bike hit a tree stump near Brady’s Rd in the state forest.

He was treated at the scene for upper leg injuries but then airlifted to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

A man in his 60s was flown to SCUH by the LifeFlight rescue chopper after his motorbike and a vehicle collided on Saturday. He was transported in a stable condition with significant leg injuries and spinal precautions.

A woman in her 50s who was an occupant in the car was also assessed but declined transport to hospital.

In yet another accident on Saturday, two people were transported to hospital in a stable condition after a car rolled at Wilson’s Pocket about 3.43pm.

Earlier, two people were taken to hospital in a stable condition following a car rollover at Woolooga, on the Brooweena Woolooga Road just before 9am.
