A driver has escaped injury after a heart-stopping moment on the Bruce Highway north of Gympie.
Emryn Donnelly-Fagan was driving on the highway in Tamaree about 6am on Monday, December 9, when a large object fell off an oncoming truck and struck the driver’s side door.
The unidentified item caused significant damage to his car, knocking off his side mirror and damaging several panels on his ute.
Emryn Donnelly-Fagan, the driver of the vehicle, posted images of the damaged car saying the incident took place around 6am when he was driving to Brisbane.
“I was driving back to Brisbane through Tamaree, just before Gympie, on the highway when a large object fell off an oncoming truck and struck my car,” Emryn said.
“The impact caused considerable damage.
“Unfortunately, the truck did not stop as it was travelling in the opposite direction.”
Commenters said the driver was very lucky the object did not go through the windshield, which could have caused serious injuries.
People also said there seemed to be a lot of recent reports of vehicles being damaged by flying tires, objects not being properly secured, bolts hitting windscreens, and cheap ratchet straps coming off.
“I had a bolt hit my windscreen that came off the back of an oncoming truck, it’s bloody both scary and lethal,” one commenter said.
“This happened to my husband about 4-5 months ago, just south of Tiaro and it wrote his car off,” another wrote.
“I got hit with a wheel [from a] low-loader trailer south of Gympie last year. [It] wrote my Landcruiser off and $4000 damage to my van,” another posted.
